NEW ORLEANS: The Saints injury report grew longer before it grew shorter on Thursday, Oct. 15, as wide receiver Chris Olave missed practice for a second straight day with an illness ahead of the Week 6 road game at the New York Giants on Sunday, Oct. 18.

Olave was one of five Saints who did not practice on Thursday. Linebacker Kaden Elliss was out with a calf injury, Anfernee Jennings was out with a knee injury, and defensive lineman Nathan Shepherd was out with an illness, according to the Thursday reports in Saints Wire and SI. Defensive lineman Davon Godchaux also did not practice, listed as not injury related for rest, and Saints Wire noted he does not typically practice on Thursdays.

The limited group changed as well. Running back Alvin Kamara remained limited with a back injury, his second straight limited day, and defensive lineman Vernon Broughton remained limited with an illness. Rookie defensive back Lorenzo Styles Jr. was added to the report as limited with a knee injury, a new entry from Wednesday that both Saints Wire and the SI report carried in their Thursday tables.

Two starters move back to full work

The encouraging movement came on the defensive line. Edge rusher Tyree Wilson, listed with an ankle injury, and defensive lineman Colby Wooden, listed with a toe injury, both practiced fully on Thursday after being limited on Wednesday, according to Saints Wire and SI.

Quarterback Tyler Shough practiced fully again despite a left hand injury, long snapper Zach Wood practiced fully while listed with a calf injury, and offensive lineman Jeremiah Wright practiced fully while recovering from a concussion. The same three full listings appeared in the Thursday tables published by Saints Wire, SI and the A to Z Sports report carried by Yardbarker.

The Giants have a list of their own

New York also reported five players out of practice on Thursday. Saints Wire and SI both listed offensive tackles Andrew Thomas, with a groin injury, and Jermaine Eluemunor, with a calf injury, among the Giants nonparticipants, along with linebacker Abdul Carter, cornerback Colton Hood and safety Tyler Nubin.

The Saints enter the game at 1-4 and the Giants at 3-1-1, the records carried by Saints Wire in its Thursday report and by Giants Wire in its own Week 6 coverage. For New Orleans, the central question leaving Thursday is a short one: whether Olave, the offense’s top receiver, gets back on the field before the trip to New Jersey.
